INTRODUCTION

Holy Family School offers a comprehensive music education program. Music is a wonderful, creative medium that can enhance overall learning at school. Music is taught in each of our classrooms and a wide variety of additional music services and activities complement the classroom teaching.

IMPLEMENTATION OF MUSIC

The teaching of music at Holy Family School is based on three important substrands:

  • Performing
  • Organising Sound
  • Listening.

EDUCATIONAL MUSIC OUTCOMES

As a sample, Holy Family School works towards the following teaching outcomes in music:

  • Participates in simple speech, singing, playing and moving activities, demonstrating an awareness of musical concepts.
  • Creates own rhymes, games, songs and simple compositions.
  • Listens to and responds to music.
  • Sings, plays and moves to a range of music, demonstrating an awareness of musical concepts.
  • Explores, creates, selects and organises sound in simple structures.
  • Uses symbol systems to represent sounds.
  • Responds to a range of music, expressing likes and dislikes and the reason for these choices.
  • Sings, plays and moves to a range of music, demonstrating an awareness of musical concepts.
  • Improvises musical phrases, organises sounds and explains reasons for choices.
  • Uses commonly understood symbols to represent own work.
  • Identifies the use of musical concepts and musical symbols in a range of repertoire.
  • Sings, plays and moves to a range of music, individually and in groups, demonstrating an awareness of musical concepts.
  • Improvises, experiments, selects, combines and orders sound using musical concepts.
